Carondelet Health Network won the American Heart Association’s overall
fundraising award for the 2008 Heart Walk. This makes the fourth consecutive
year that Carondelet has won the award.
Carondelet facilities combined to raise $30,884 of the $233,000 total
collected by the association during the walk in and around Tucson Mall.
In addition, Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital won the award for the top
fundraising company for the Heart Walk while raising $11,388. Leslie
Minjarez, clinical resources director at St. Joseph’s, put
together the hospital’s team.
The awards were given last month at the
American Heart Association’s annual Dinner and Community Council meeting
at Hacienda del Sol.
Carondelet also received the association’s Corporate Sponsor of the Year
award for its Go Red for Women luncheon. More than 300 people attended the
event, which combined fund raising with a
heart-healthy lunch and education about heart disease. The luncheon, held at
the JW Marriott Starr Pass, raised $185,000, an increase of $50,000 over
last year.
Several Carondelet employees were also recognized for their work by the
heart association, including Steve Arthur and Yolanda Gabrehl from the
Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Department at St. Mary’s Hospital; Joy Pipes,
rehabilitation clinical liaison at St. Mary’s, and Peggy MacMacken, chief
nursing officer at St. Joseph’s and outgoing chair of the heart
association’s executive board.
